We will explore various hot-spots on the refuge for fall migrants. The walk will then continue to other nearby locations based on current reports. Anything is possible during fall migration! Note that an entrance fee or pass is required to enter Parker River NWR.

The Lakes of Wakefield and Lynnfield

We will visit several different lakes and ponds in Wakefield and Lynnfield primarily looking for waterfowl. There will be some walking.

Fresh Pond, Cambridge

An easy 2-mile walk through pondside meadows and forest paths at Fresh Pond. The over-wintering waterbirds have started to arrive, and we may see Ring-necked Ducks, Ruddy Ducks and both Hooded and Common Mergansers. Meadow and forest species may include year-round residents as well as seasonal visitors from the north (e.g. White-throated Sparrows, Juncos).

North Shore Waterfowl Expedition

We will visit several different water bodies in Essex County in attempting to see as many as 25 different species of Ducks and Geese. There will be some walking. We will end up at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Note that an entrance fee or pass is required to visit Parker River NWR.

Pelagic, Hyannis MA to Nantucket Shoals

A great time of year to get offshore. We often find masses of sea ducks around Nantucket Sound, with lingering shearwaters over the shoals and a chance for alcids. Limited to 65 participants. Unless otherwise stated, all trips are free to attend and do not need preregistration. You do not need to be a club member to attend, though we hope you will join. We follow all policies of field trip location property owners and co-sponsoring organizations. These may include ongoing public health measures. Some participants may choose to wear a face mask for health purposes. We support their right to do so.
