On Saturday March 26, BBC hosted a woodcock walk for kids. In spite of the damp weather, twenty excited children and parents joined trip leaders Kathy Dia and Naeem Yusuff at Belmont’s Rock Meadow for an evening learning about and observing the unusual dusk courtship display of the American Woodcock. Kathy shared some info about the bird’s appearance and behavior, then Naeem got the fun started leading the kids in their best imitation of bird’s walk and call. The woodcocks, undeterred by the light rain, gave participants quite a show, vocalizing and flying high into the air, sometimes landing yards from our feet to the amazement of all!
